The Eyole California Cultural group headed by Mola Martin Musonge, refers particularly to a support group of Fako indigenes and their families who currently reside in the San Francisco Bay Area in the State of California. The primary objective of this group is to provide economic, educational, and social support to its members as well as support projects in Fako homeland in Cameroon. This cultural group started on a day in Richmond California when Mama Rebecca Efosi Ngomba nee Mosima from Small Soppo, Cameroon was visiting her family and extended family. During a welcoming visit at her residence, Mama Rebecca noticed that though there was much co-operation within the Fako indigenes that came to welcome her during her visit; a very good catalyst for co-operation in the typical Cameroonian tradition, that is, njangi was missing. Mama Rebecca, as a result, urged all Fako indigenes in the San Francisco Bay Area to formulate a njangi group to enhance co-operation amongst all Fako indigenes.
Thus Eyole California was born on November 1998 and the group has since been holding meetings on the 3rd week of every month; coincidently, the 14th annual Fako America convention falls on the 10th anniversary of Eyole California cultural group.
Some of the projects that Eyole California has been involved in, includes a scholarship program for Fako students in the university of Buea; social support for individual Eyole members on as-needed basis; assistance with the building of the Buea Town Nursery school project; and networking with other Cameroonian groups to provide resources in the California Bay Area community.
Membership into the Eyole California has been and will continue to be open to any Fako indigenes and their spouses and family members of Fako Cameroon.
Belatedly, on June 27 – 29, 2008, right here in Richmond, San Francisco Bay Area, California, Eyole California will be hosting the Fako America 14th Annual Convention in a spirit of togetherness as well as that of building bridges because this is the first time a Fako America convention will be taking place in the West Coast of America.
It is the desired wish of Eyole Cameroon to continue to be part of the Fako America family which is a conglomeration of all Fako cultural groups existing in various states of the United States of America. Eyole California would like to, and welcomes the challenge of contributing towards the attainment of Fako America’s mission statement.
Finally, Eyole California wishes to congratulate and welcomes all Fako indigenes who will converge into the San Francisco Bay area during celebrations marking the 14th Annual Convention of Fako America dubbed – Fako America Convention California 2008.
