Fako America President and Board Chair Visit Cameroon, Meet With Local Authorities

Shortly after the July 2008 Fako America convention, the newly elected FA President, Dr. Henry Njie, and the new Board Chair, Mr. Edwin Ndoko, traveled to Cameroon for a brief visit.

While in Cameroon, they met with a number of local political, administrative and educational authorities in Fako division to discuss possible avenues for cooperation between the Fako Diaspora in America and the Fako community back home. Prominent among those whom they met were the mayors of Buea and Tiko.

Fako America Elects New Board and Executive Committee Members

During the Fako America annual Convention which took place in Richmond, California, from June 27-29, 2008, the following members were elected into the Executive Bureau and Board:

FA Awards 2.7 Million FCFA to Fako Students

Fako America has awarded scholarships worth 2.7 million FCFA to 79 students from Fako division. This is an increase from 60 students who received the awards in 2002. It should be noted that over 300 applications were received by the FA Scholarship Committee, which first narrowed down the list to 115 applicants, and then finally to 79. The best student in each class received 50,000 FCFA, while good students with limited financial resources were awarded 25,000FCFA.

The scholarships will be awarded to the deserving students during a ceremony to take place in Buea at a still-to-be-determined date.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

The Executive Committee of Fako America would like to extend a belated Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all members and also to the people of Fako. We are halfway through our first year and we are happy to report that it has been challenging but rewarding. We are making progress on several fronts and you will be informed at the apprpriate time. FA Board holds Inaugural Meeting in Washington D.C.

- Etoni Aweh Elected Board Chair

Fako America's first-ever Board of Directors held its inaugural meeting in Washington DC on November 13, 2004. The highlights of the meeting included the presentation of the FA President's agenda for 2004-2006, and the election of Board officials. Lydia Etoni Aweh was elected Board Chair and Martin Musonge elected Board Secretary.

We will come back in greater detail to the Board elections. In the meantime here is a report presented at the end of the meeting by the FA President, Sam Moki, regarding his administration's agenda:

New Fako America Logo Commissioned

Anyone who visits the new Fako America website or makes a stop at FA’s online FA Gift Shop cannot but notice the impressive and very professional logo that adorns both sites, and which is found on all items at the shop. This logo was conceived and designed by none other than our own Mola Dr. Emil Isuma Mondoa who has, without doubt, been at the forefront of the Fako cultural renaissance within the Fako Diaspora community.

The logo, which brings back to life the long forgotten original Fako America motto that was coined Mola Mbua Efange, pioneer FA President, is laden with symbolism.
